Pet-friendly Furniture Ideas – Hey look, this is my room! Any story angle I can cook up to get you interested in this space I’ll gladly take as I’ve spent many a weekend putting this thing together (just kidding). At a recent brainstorming session we talked about very exciting topics like ‘function’ and I gave our EHD ladies some knowledge about velvet and why it is such a durable fabric. It might look fancy and shiny, but guys, this stuff can beat the odds and more people need to know about it. 9/10 of my EHD listeners were shocked, and whenever something like this happens, we do what any good blogger does: make it a post for everyone’s benefit.
I’ve had my velvet sofa for over a year now (Maxwell sectional by Interior Define) and it still looks like new. Of course, I live in a two adult house with no kids and no pets…what could go wrong? But before you fire me for not checking, hear me out… I know a few people with kids, pets, and plush couches, and they rave about it here. All agree that the lack of woven “loops” prevents slippage from claws and nails, and that the velvety top layer keeps stains from immediately falling off like laundry. Instead, it gives you some time (a few seconds) to run over and grab it before it’s permanently on your couch (without paying rent). Stains are easy to hide thanks to the naturally variable piles of vision…just run your hand in the opposite direction and suddenly you really can’t tell if it’s velvet or last night’s fettuccine alfredo. . Yes, dust and lint are a problem, but a regular vacuum or lint roller will go a long way (I’ve heard from pet owners that an old lint roller works great, especially on a fabric like velvet, so… just tell someone if it helps).

When I started writing this article, I realized I didn’t have the answers to the original questions the team bombarded me with, so I turned to our friends at the article to find me some real experts, who contacted Zoe Garred, Director of Product Development. (No, this is not sponsored at all… I’ve contacted several furniture companies I work with regularly and they get back to me in a timely manner!) Here are the highlights:

Great stuff… isn’t it? Just me? Most of the time I think it’s funny that it’s too high maintenance or doesn’t fit in a “real” home because it’s cuddly, gross, and “charming,” but guys, THAT’S NOT RIGHT. Anyone reading this can immediately jump to the comments to tell me I’m wrong… maybe the bottom line is: velvet is no more high maintenance than regular fabric; if anything, all the above reasons are few.
Plus, aesthetically, it just packs such a visual punch and goes a long way to making a room feel really special. I’m sure the following little fact won’t surprise you, but a colorful velvet sofa has long been an EHD favorite for the texture and character it adds to a space. Although it’s more of a neutral, it’s hard to ignore the style power of velvet. It’s a great tool for those who need more design for their wardrobe or say a smaller room to shake things out of the main living space. Don’t save it for the “sitting” room where no one sits. Velvet can be warm, so let’s keep the bench warmer, shall we?
Now when it comes to shopping, luckily the prices of these babies have been reduced due to the popularity of these babies on social media and you can find some really luxurious options at discount retailers and brick and mortar stores. Below, I’ve rounded up all of my favorites under $1,300 (some under $300!) and then under $2,000. No, I haven’t tried all of these options, I’ll list the ones I’ve tested IRL in my own sofa research, as well as when I was in apartment therapy in a big series of “sofa group” tests (check it out here).

Purrfect Picks: How To Choose The Best Couch For Cats
#2: I haven’t tried the velvet version because the Farlow JUST came out and it’s only made of linen, but it’s deep enough to feel comfortable, but not too deep and needs 5 pillows in the back for lumbar support.
#4: This sofa sits very low, so it’s a good idea if you’re looking for something low-profile to look good in an open room. It’s a bit tight but I know a few people for support.
#5: Sarah has this couch (with leather) and likes it so much that she’s considering painting it in her parents’ living room and loft TV room.
#19: If you touch your hands, it might feel weird (but it’s a good height to get your head back in a bit), on this baby, the hands bend quite a bit. Plus, it’s so pretty (especially in that golden yellow velvet).

#2: Aside from the unique leg, this is a couch that “sits” a bit on the firmer, more upright side.
#3: I’ve owned this couch for four years and I still regret the loss in terms of comfort. My favorite sofa for relaxing. They are seriously twisted and watchable movies for the ages. Several guests have also slept incredibly comfortably here, as it’s so deep it’s basically like a double bed, but it definitely makes you want to kick it.
#8: This one is deeper than I gave it credit for when I first saw it in the store. The back side is a little steep, but overall a moderate level of firmness.
Cozy Living Room Ideas From Designers On How To Make Your Interiors More Comfy
#10: I own this bad boy (see header of this post or go full throttle here for my living room look) and love it. It has to be sprayed once or twice a week to keep it from looking a little dull, but I don’t mind…it does a good job. The purple seems to be no longer available, but the new blue looks a bit moody and dark, which is actually how I imagined it at first. The classic English sofa bed has a lot to offer
