Lake Navarino near Waroona has backcountry and waterside campgrounds, but currently camping is limited at Lake Navarino Holiday Park. No problem as it is a beautiful place to pitch a tent, nestled in the jarrah bush between Waroona and Dwellingup. There’s plenty to do in the area, and its proximity to Perth – which is why it’s one of the most popular camping spots in the country. Stockton Lake is the place to go if you want to stay at a lake with a Collie – although it’s first come, first served. A former open-pit mine, it’s popular for water skiing and boating, and while swimming is allowed, be aware that the water is slightly acidic and can irritate those with sensitive skin. Marrinup Campground is simple, set on open grass in the former town of Marrinup about 5km north-west of Dwellingup. It is a popular destination for bikers as the Marrinup hiking and biking trail can be found here, along with the popular Munda Biddi trail. Doggos are welcome but must be on a lead.

Pool Lane is one of the most popular campsites in the Perth area and it’s clear why. After a quick 1.5 hour drive out of the city, you’ll find yourself standing on the banks of the Murray River, with access to hiking trails such as the Bibbulmun Track and the Munda Biddi Trail. There are nine sites to choose from and they offer tables and indoor lounges. The sites have the opportunity to host different types of camping, from tents to full camping. Lake Kepwari is the site of an old coal mine that has been developed into a water recreation area for about ten years, before reaching that goal by the end of 2020. Barbecues, along with boating areas and water skiing, swimming, boating and fishing areas. , campsites and more. Doggos are welcome but must be on a lead.

You will find Glen Mervyn Dam 18km south of Collie where there is plenty of skiing on most weekends. It is also a popular swimming and fishing area, with camping permitted on the west shore where a hole is provided. The best way to experience some of WA’s, if not Australia’s most unique sights is to pitch your tent (or caravan) at Wave Rock Caravan Park. It is located at the base of the original Wave Rock, with walking distance to Hippo’s Yawn, Magic Lake and many hiking trails in the area.

Just shy of three hours south of Perth, the Sues Bridge campsite comes with kitchen facilities such as cookers, food preparation tables, picnic tables and barbecue facilities. As a waterfront location, you can wake up to the soothing sounds of the Blackwood River. There are plenty of wildlife and free camping sites around Albany, but if you’re looking for something a little more equipped, look no further than Emu Beach Caravan Park. 10 minutes from the city center, full of beautiful pepper trees swaying in the wind and right on the beach. Parry Beach is a volunteer-run campsite in pleasant Denmark that offers basic amenities including a beach boat launch. Between the west coast towns of Green Head and Leeman you will find the Milligan Island Camping Node – 36 campsites in a quiet area outside the town, very close to the beach. There is no water or electricity in the eco resort, but there are toilets and gas barbecues. The beaches around the area are a traveller’s paradise, with snorkeling at Lipfert Island, sand boarding, beach fishing, kitesurfing and hiking in the right conditions – a storm. One of the best north-west style campsites in the Perth area, Ellendale Pool is a naturally formed pool on the Greenough River. Surrounded by trees and rocky valleys, it’s just 45 minutes south-east of Geraldton, making it a popular nightlife destination. There are many interpretive signs in the area providing information on Aboriginal and European history, with open houses and barbecues making it a great place to visit.
